How to Prepare Your Front Range Home for Fall

Ahh, fall...the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting crisper, families are falling into new rhythms as their children begin a new year of school. All around us are signs that cooler, cozier days have arrived.

Prepare your Front Range home for fall by finishing up any last-minute maintenance projects you've been meaning to get to all summer, and get your yard and house ready for changing temperatures. You'll be so glad you did!

Outside

First things first, let's clean out those gutters.

No one loves to clean out the gutters, but left undone, you could have serious water damage on your hands. Sorry, y'all. Oh, and while you're up there, take a peek at your roof for damaged shingles or vents. You'll only be on the roof once!

Fix cracks in your concrete.

Odds are, these next few weeks are the last good weather you'll get for a while. And the last thing you'll want to deal with this winter is a broken sidewalk camouflaged by ice and snow. Call us to schedule a concrete lifting appointment before the warm, dry, sunny weather passes us by!

Turn off your outdoor plumbing.

Wrap and disconnect those hoses, drain outdoor faucets and sprinkler systems, and cover them to protect everything from the freezing weather to come. Better to do it now while it's still nice to be in the yard.

Inside

Prepare your furnace.

In case you missed this to-do last spring, you'll want to get your furnace professionally inspected and serviced in time for the first cold snap. Request that he/she also replace your furnace filter to ensure everything's as safe and up to code as possible.

Clean out the fireplace and chimney.

Hire a chimney professional to sweep out your fireplace and chimney, inspect the flue, and ensure everything is structurally sound. Now's also a great time to build up that stash of firewood. Cozy, right?

Air seal your windows, doors and attic.

Cold weather in the Front Range brings with it a truly invasive sort of cold. The last thing you want is to feel it inside your house too! At Ward Insulation, we use spray foam to seal up gaps in attic floors and walls so you can enjoy a draft-free home year round. Consultations are free!
